José María Morelos y Pavón (1765–1815) Mexican Roman Catholic priest and revolutionary rebel leader.
A priest and leader in the Mexican War of Independence against Spain, Morelos called for the creation of a Mexican government in which all people would participate, there would be no slavery, and no division between races or ethnicities. He is a Mexican national hero and is featured on the 50-peso note.
Artist Statement
I chose this quote because I think if people don’t have justice then the government should be doing something about it. As I was designing my flag art piece, I connected the quote with it by showing how I envision the situation.
