Students from Philip D. Armour Elementary, One for One at Carl Schurz High School, and 826CHI designed the flags.
The Design Museum provided a list of ideas from people shown in the mural. Guided by their teachers and museum staff, students selected an idea and designed a response using shapes drawn directly from the mural. Finally, students created gestural drawings of a meaningful place in their neighborhood. The results were combined into a single image on the flags printed by R&S Marching Arts in Logan Square.
